Darwents French Polishers
In the early 80's, a friend and good neighbour of ours Mr Roy Brook owned Darwents French Polishers in Kirkgate. As Mr Brook is ready for retiring, Johnny and Joe purchased the building as it was part of their island complex. Although at the time at the time they didnt know what to do with it. After consulting our architect, accountant and the Yorkshire Tourist Board the brothers decided to convert the building into a hotel (The Huddersfield Hotel). The hotel was officially opened in September 1984 by Harold Wilson the ex prime minister. Mr and Mrs Brook were invited and a copy of their invite above.
Below is Mr Paul and Mrs Joyce Brook sat in the Central Lodge conservatory looking through some of the day books which Roy kindly gave to Johnny upon his retirement. Paul is Roy's son and was happy to know that we have kept the books for prosterity.
Below is a picture of Mr and Mrs Brook with their son Paul.
Paul and Joyce were kind enough to send the letter below after their visit to see his fathers day books. It was good for us to be back in contact with 2 members of a lovely family.
