Yorkshire Day - 1st August 1999

Planning biggest ever party
The Huddersfield Hotel complex is planning the biggest party in its three-decade history.
The charity gala is planned for Yorkshire Day, August 1, and ties in with the 30th anniversary of Johnny’s Nightclub which is part of the hotel complex.
The fundraising event is expected to net thousands of pounds for the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Breast Clinic Appeal and Meningitis Trust. Co-ordinator Angela Hinchliffe said: “ We’ve had plenty of parties and celebrations before, but nothing on the scale that this will be.
“We’ve celebrated Yorkshire Day for the past seven years, and quite often we feel the occasion goes barely noticed by too many people. We just want to draw attention to it, “ said Miss Hinchliffe, the manageress of the Palace Bar and Brasserie.
The newly-extended hotel car park, off Lord Street, is the venue for the fun, which is set to start around 2pm.A tombola, raffle and balloon race are being held and DJ’s from the past 30 years at Johnny’s night club will make guest appearances at the evening celebrations.
Angela Hinchliffe is seen with (from left) breast clinic appeal chairman John Woodhead, theatrical producer Chris Brearley and event committee member Malcolm Carroll, manager of the Boy and barrel.
